Stu Hayner Infineon Raceway Pre Race Report
#5 GMAC / Trenton Forging GTO On A Roll Into Round Seven
Detroit – July 13, 2005 With his fourth place finish at Lime Rock
Park and a development program that is starting to hit its stride,
Stu Hayner wants to keep moving the GMAC Commercial Finance / Trenton
Forging #5 GTO heading in the right direction for Round Seven of the
SCCA Pro SPEED World Challenge GT race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma,
California, July 15-17. The race is in conjunction with the American
Le Mans Series and part of the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma
Presented by Ravenswood.
“This west coast swing will be a real test for our guys and this
program,” said Hayner. “Now is the time to step it up. We’ve made
great progress in the last four races, but they’re already history.
Our guys know that the next steps in our progress are really tough.
You can shave 1/10s of your time with a change here and a change
there. But now we need to find those 1/100ths… we need to find that
extra speed at the long end of the straights.”
“We’ve done a great job zoning in on the car’s handling,” Hayner
continued. “That was such massive problem with last year’s car that
it became our primary focus with our 2005 cars. Horsepower has been
somewhat secondary. We knew we had to focus on getting the car in and
off the corners…. we’ve done that. I can really feel the car now… and
I can put it where I need to be whether I’m in traffic or in the
corners. Now we need top end speed… I can manage the rest.”
Hayner and his Autosport Development team will have their opportunity
to finally put the #5 GTO on the podium this Saturday at The Infineon
Grand Prix of Sonoma Presented by Ravenswood. The weekend schedule
calls for the SPEED GT race to run Saturday at 1:05pm and the Touring
Car race to run on Sunday at 2:50pm. Both races will air Sunday, July
17th on SPEED with the GT race at 1:30pm the Touring Car race at 6pm.
All times are EST.
Autosport Development competes as part of the SPEED World Challenge
GT Series. All events are nationally televised on SPEED channel
(formerly Speedvision). In 2005 the SPEED World Challenge Series
schedule will include street races and temporary circuits in
Cleveland, Denver and St. Petersburg, and make the traditional stops
around the country at great tracks like Sebring, Road Atlanta, Lime
Rock Park, Infineon, Mosport, Portland, Mid-Ohio and Laguna Seca.
