WHITCHURCH WINS BAKERSFIELD; SASSELLI LEADS CALIFORNIA DIRT FOCUS MIDGETS TO
VENTURA

Robbie Whitchurch of Chico, Calif. became the first driver to win a USAC
California Ford Focus race on dirt in over a month and first driver other
than Chase Barber to win a California Ford Focus race since June 11 when he
captured Saturday’s race at Bakersfield, Calif. He’ll try to maintain his
momentum as the series moves to the 1/5-mile Ventura Raceway in Ventura,
Calif. this Saturday.

Whitchurch led all 20 laps of the race for his first career USAC victory,
finishing first in the No. 82 Moe Whitchurch Racing Stealth. Trailing
Whitchurch at the finish were Barber – who was seeking his fourth straight
California Ford Focus win – Alex Harris, Chris Veach and series points
leader Audra Sasselli.

Sasselli, of Fresno, Calif., still owns the series points lead by nine over
Barber heading into this Saturday’s event. Harris is also within striking
distance, 16 points behind Sasselli.
