BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY

!!!!MATT BOKNECHT

WINS WOLFPACK FEAURE!!!!

!!! GAINES WINS #3 !!!

GARY TRAMMELL WIN #2

BLOOMINGTON, IN (JULY 9, 2005) - For the second week in a row the pits overflowed at Bloomington Speedway with more than a hundred cars in competition. This week it was the O'Neal Wood Products/Monroe County Pizza Dept. modifieds that led the attendance derby. Of course, that is to be expected since it was Bloomington Speedway's night to run the biggest modified series in the state - the Wolfpack Challenge. Of course, the best modifieds in the state rolled onto the red clay to compete against each other the prestigious title that goes with the series win. Since Boknecht is a former Bloomington Speedway champion in addition to his other track championships he owns, it should come as no surprise that he left Bloomington Speedway as the winner last night.

Dick Gaines II came to Bloomington Speedway with two of our feature wins already under his belt this season. Last night, he made it three. However, like most Bloomington Speedway features, it provided a lot of competition in route to the checkered flag.

Gary Trammell drove to his second consecutive feature win in the competitive Tire and Wheel Center super stock feature win. However, to do that, he had to outlast one of the short track racers in the state, Randy Petro of Columbus.

Boknecht Wins Wolfpack Challenge Feature --

Since last night was out night to run the Wolfpack Challenge series, there was one major change in our program - the races were aligned based on qualification time. Joey Kramer had quick time followed by J.D. Roberts, Jesse Cramer, Greg Deckard, and Phil VanSant. The top four qualifiers were inverted in each of the heats. The heats were won by Matt Boknecht who started third, Ryan Thomas from third, Jesse Cramer from fourth, Paul Bumgardner from fifth, and Lee Hobbs from second.

The top three in each heat race transferred to the feature. That accounted for less than a third of the cars on hand. The other two thirds had to earn their berth in the feature by finishing in the top three of one of the two "B" features. Jeff Bland, Jr. and Ryan Lawrence took the two "B"'s.

As usual, the feature was aligned based on a dash among the five feature winners. Boknect won earn the right to start on the pole of the feature.

When the green flag dropped, Matt Boknecht charged into the lead; however, Jesse Cramer was on his tail followed by Lee Hobbs, Ryan Thomas, and Shelby Miles. Boknecht led the first five circuits before losing the point to Cramer. However, Boknecht wasn't done. On the tenth lap he slipped past Cramer to retake the lead. Although, they were battling each other for the lead, neither of them could relax. Lee Hobbs and Shelby Miles, both former Bloomington Speedway O'Neal Wood Products/Monore County Pizza Dept modified champions, were on his tail. However, as it turned out, Boknecht would not be denied this big feature win. Cramer, Hobbs, Matt Bex, and Shelby Miles made up the balance of the top five.

Gaines Wins Third Feature of the Season -

Dick Gaines II is fulfilling the promise that his heritage would have predicted. Dick Gaines was a spectacular sprint car racer; and it was the elder Gaines who joined Karl Kinser in winning Kinser's first Knoxville Nationals championship. While Gaines won his first two features in his familiar Popeye's Chicken #50, last night he was in Dan Roberts' #21 normally piloted by Kevin "Pup" Huntley. As usual Darrell Tate was turning the wrenches on Roberts' sprinter. When you combine Roberts' car with Tate turning the wrenches and Gaines in the cockpit you present a formidable goe to any sprint car competitor.

When the green flag dropped to start the feature, polesitter Jon Sciscoe charged into the lead ahead of Ty Deckard, Brad Sweet, Shane Hollingsworth, and Jared Fox. By the fourth lap, Gaines had moved from ninth place to fourth. On the eight circuit he passed Deckard to take third. It was Sciscoe, Sweet and Gaines until the 14th lap when Gaines passed Sweet to take second. On lap 17 Gaines took the point for good. However, young Sciscoe stuck with Gaines most of the way to the checkered flag. During the closing laps Gaines put some light between his mount and Sciscoe; but Sciscoe drove to a strong second place finish ahead of Kenny Carmichael, Kevin Briscoe, and Brad Sweet.

Since there were no sprint car qualifications, the heats were aligned by a blind draw. They were won by Brent Beauchamp, Ty Deckard, and Shane Hollingsworth. The first five in each heat transferred feature with the final five coming from "B" feature which was won by Kent Christian.

In accordance with track rules, the next time out Gaines will not be permitted to start farther forward than tenth. However, since he started ninth last night and won, we need not be surprised if he does it again. Fortunately, that sanction will not be imposed next Saturday night; because our Indiana Sprint Week show is not a points race.

Gary Trammell Takes Second Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock Feature -

Gary Trammell drove to a strong Tire & Wheel Center feature win on July 1; and he looked like a good candidate to repeat when he drew the pole position for his heat race and went on to win it. He started the dash on the outside of the first row and drove to a strong win over super stock ace Randy Petro.

When the green flag waved to start the Tire & Wheel Center super stock feature, Randy Petro took the lead by a matter of inches. He and Petro ran side by side for lap after lap. Trammell nosed ahead by what proved to be the final time lap four. However, Trammell was, in no way, done with Petro. They continued to run side by side until the closing laps when Trammell began to stretch out his lead. Petro held on to finish second ahead of Tom Ault, Chris Hillman and Kent Robinson.

In preliminary Tire & Wheel Center super stock action, Travis Todd, Trammell, Troy Clark, and Petro won the heat races while Trammell took the dash. Greg Amick prevailed in the "B" feature.
