Hybrid Sales Continue to Rise; Prius Represents More than Half of Market
Washington DC July 5, 2005; The AIADA newsletter reported that hybrid sales in the United States had their second best month ever with 19,223 units sold. Only April of this year has been stronger, with 20,974 units. For the first six months of 2005, hybrid sales were 92,558 Toyota accounted for nearly 80% of all hybrid sales with its three models. The Highlander Hybrid on sale for the first time in June, sold 2,869 units while the Lexus RX 400h sold 2,605. The Toyota Prius, with 9,622 cars sold, accounts for more than half of al hybrids sold in June. Honda sold a total 3,001 hybrids, split mostly between 1,852 Civic Hybrids and the Accord hybrid, with 1,080 units. Ford sold 1,126 units of the Escape hybrid in June.
