Terry Borcheller - Lime Rock race
podium
Terry Borcheller came from the back of the grid to earn his
second-consecutive American Le Mans Series GT1 podium finish, with a strong
run at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., on July 4.
Borcheller's qualifying time on the 1.54-mile road course was disallowed
when his Saleen S7R failed a stall test during post-qualifying techical
inspection. That didn't deter the Gainesville, Ga., driver – he made a fast
race start and quickly moved through the field, grabbing second in class
just past the one-hour mark of the two-hour 45-minute race. His co-driver,
Johnny Mowlem of London, England, took over at 1h29, returning to the track
third in class. He held off a late-race charge to secure the final class
podium position and finish fifth overall.
"It was exciting. Starting at the back made the race quite eventful but we
were able to get through without any contact," Borcheller said. "With the
bumps on the track, it was a bit of a handful, but the team did a great job
with the pitstops and the strategy. We did it on one stop! We were being
chased by the Maserati and Johnny did a phenomenal job at the end keeping
them behind us, because they were coming."
next race
Borcheller will drive the Saleen S7R in an American Le Mans Series race at
Infineon (Sears Point) Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on July 17.
