CALIFORNIA FORD FOCUS DIRT SERIES RESUMES SATURDAY; BARBER
CAPTURES THIRD STRAIGHT PAVEMENT RACE
After a month of California Ford Focus races on pavement, the Dirt Series
resumes action Saturday with a 20-lap feature scheduled at Bakersfield,
Calif.
The dirt series, led by Audra Sasselli, has competed at Bakersfield on three
occasions thus far this season and has produced three different winners.
One of those looking for his first victory on dirt this season is Chase
Barber of Morgan Hill, Calif. The teenager scored his third straight
California Ford Focus Pavement Midget Car Series victory Saturday at
Irwindale, Calif., leading the final seven laps on the 1/3-mile oval.
Barber, driving the No. 91 Beast/Ford Focus, led points leader Alex Harris –
who until Saturday had won every Irwindale feature this season – Jeff
Sakowicz, Benny Moon and Sasselli, who led the opening 28 laps of the event.
Barber is now within 10 points of Harris. The pavement series is off until
Aug. 20 at Stockton, Calif.
