Hager Wins Summer Fun 50 at SSP on Sunday Night

Danny Hager Wins the Trail Motors Super Sportsman Summer Fun 50 Feature at
SSP on Sunday Night

Newberrytown, PA (July 3, 2005) - Greencastle’s Danny Hager scored his
first win of the season at the Susquehanna Speedway Park in Sunday night’s Trail
Motors Super Sportman Summer Fun 50-lap feature event. Sam Leonard Jr. of
Marysville edged out Halifax’s Paul Morgan at the line to pick up the Street
Stock feature presented by Miller Racing Parts. Jason Rochelle of Schnecksvillle
became the first repeat feature winner of the season by winning the 15-lap
Legends Car feature over his veteran teammate Ronnie Dunstan.
In the 50 lap Trail Motors Sportsman main event, Ken Carberry jumped out to
an early lead. Danny Hager made the pass for the lead on the 14th circuit.
Over the remaining 37 laps, he received pressure from Dave Calaman and Rich
Eichelberger as the dodged their way through lapped traffic. A caution on lap
40 gave Hager the necessary open track in front of him to cruise to the
victory over the final 10 laps. Hager’s teammate Calaman followed in the
runner-up position and Eichelberger came in third. Frankie Herr and Gregg Forster
rounded out the top five. Ken Carberry ran sixth with Steve Cannon, Steve
Wilbur, Russ Mitten and Bob Fannasy completing the top ten.
Heats for the 27 cars went to Raymond Myers, Scott Ausherman and Frankie
Herr. Bob Fannasy won the consolation race.
Sam Leonard, Jr. picked up the victory in the 15-lap Miller Racing Parts
Street Stock feature. He took the lead from the start as Paul Morgan closed in
for the entire race from his fifth starting position. The sole caution on
lap 7 was not enough for Morgan to get by Leonard at the photo finish on the
final circuit. Scott Thunberg finished third with George Eash and Kory Sites
completing the top five. Heat races 23 entires went to eash and Leonard.
Newville’s Butch Brough jumped out to an early lead from his fifth place
starting spot in the 15-lap Central PA Legends Cars feature. Jason Rochelle
quickly moved to the front to pressure Brough and passed him for the lead on
the 3rd lap. After some early race cautions and a red flag, Rochelle and
Brough were joined at the front by Ronnie Dunstan for a torrid 3 car battle for
the lead over the last half of the race. Rochelle held on for the win over
runner-up Dunstan and Butch Brough finished third. Paul Rochelle and Geremy
Shaffer finished fourth and fifth respectively. Brothers Jason and Paul
Rochelle won the heats for Legends Cars.
