MILWAUKEE MILE NEXT FOR SILVER CROWN CARS STEELE NEW ALL-TIME
LAP LEADER AFTER PPIR VICTORY
JULY 3, 2005
The Milwaukee Mile in Wisconsin is the next stop for the USAC
Weld Racing Silver Crown Series and Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla., now the
all-time lap leader in series history, will lead the series to its sixth
stop of the 2005 campaign.
A 100-mile Silver Crown race at Milwaukee July 23 will be
joined by a 30-mile National Midget car feature on the famed 1-mile paved oval.
Steele established a brand-new record for Silver Crown laps
led in a career by leading the final 60 miles of Sunday's "Rocky Mountain
Classic" at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo. He passed
pole starter Tracy Hines on the 41 lap and led the rest of the way in his
Bob East/Tony Stewart Beast/Ford to beat Michael Lewis, J.J. Yeley, John
Heydenreich and Eric Gordon. The win left him with a 45-point lead over
Josh Wise in the new standings going into the Milwaukee event.
Steele averaged 117.301 mph Sunday as the race was slowed only
three times for caution flags.
Hines, who led the first 40 laps of Sunday's race, retired
after 70 laps with a broken drive line.
