TriMas Corporation's Cequent Transportation Accessories Group to Divest Snowco Product Line
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., June 30 -- TriMas Corporation today announced that the Snowco brand will no longer be part of its Cequent Transportation Accessories Group portfolio. The product line has been sold to McPherson, Kan.-based FEMCO, Inc., which makes and distributes products similar to the Snowco brand. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Snowco, a leading brand of sun protection (or canopies), is sold in the retail channel and to original equipment manufacturers. Cequent Transportation Accessories acquired the Snowco product line in 2003 with TriMas Corporation's purchase of HammerBlow, but it was not considered to be a core product within the Cequent family of brands.
"The sale of the Snowco product line will free up a considerable amount of manufacturing floor space in our Juarez, Mexico facility," said Edward Schwartz, Cequent Group President. "The plant capacity being made available is currently under study. This action supports the company's strategy to continue the development of a center of expertise in heavy metal fabricating in Juarez."
Juarez employees involved in Snowco production will be reassigned to other jobs within the plant depending on plant needs. The Juarez plant will continue to build Snowco finished goods for approximately 60 days to assure a seamless transition to FEMCO.
