Nissan Production, Sales and Exports for May 2005


-Global and overseas production at record for month of May-


TOKYO (June 29, 2005) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced production, sales and export figures for May 2005.

1. Production
Nissan’s global production grew 16.7% from the same month a year earlier to 277,927 units, its best May ever.

Production in Japan rose 11.5% from a year ago to 108,228 units. Strong sales of models such as the Tiida and Note compact cars, the Murano crossover SUV and the launch of the new Serena minivan contributed to the increase.

Overseas production jumped 20.2% from a year ago to 169,699 units. In the US, production climbed 17.7% to 67,211 units due to strong sales of the Altima mid-size sedan and the Pathfinder SUV. In Mexico, production rose 13.8% to 30,432 units aided by brisk sales of the Sentra compact car.

In the UK, production grew 4.6% to 27,304 units on the back of strong sales of the Primera sedan and Primera wagon. In Spain, output rose 54.4% to 18,355 units, helped by the start of production of the new Pathfinder in January.

Production in general overseas markets (GOM), which exclude the Japan, the US and Europe, grew 36.2% to 26,397 units amid the start of local production of the Teana luxury sedan and the Tiida sedan in China.

2. Sales

Nissan’s domestic registrations rose 15.9% from a year ago to 52,322 units helped by a steady performance from compact models, including the Tiida and the Note. As for existing models, strong sales of the Elgrand, including a 2.5-liter engine version added last December, also contributed to the rise.

Nissan’s share of the domestic registered market in May amounted to 18.8%, up 1.5 percentage points from the same month a year earlier.

Nissan’s May domestic sales, including minivehicles, rose 14.1% from a year ago to 58,812 units. Nissan’s market share grew 0.8 percentage points to 13.8%.

In the US, Nissan’s May sales rose 6.6% from a year earlier to 93,519 units, a record for the month of May. Nissan brand sales rose 7.7% to 82,440 units due to strong sales of the Altima mid-size sedan and the new Pathfinder. This May had two less selling days than last May, but Infiniti brand sales stayed at about same level, falling only 0.6% to 11,079 units helped by strong sales of the M35/M45 (Fuga in Japan), launched in March. Nissan’s sales in Canada grew 5.0% to 6,831 units, while sales in Mexico fell by 6.2% to 16,420 units.

Nissan’s May sales in Europe were at about the same level as last year, rising 0.7% to 47,672 units amid continued strong demand for the Murano, released in February, and the new Pathfinder, released in March.

3. Exports

Nissan’s exports in May fell 12.5% from a year ago to 49,726 units.

Shipments to North America declined 27.0% to 15,065 units following the shift of production of the Pathfinder from Japan to the US last September.

Shipments to Europe dropped 9.7% to 8,768 units because of a decrease in Pickup exports.

Exports to Latin American increased by 19.0% to 5,643 units due to strong sales of the X-Trail compact SUV in Mexico. Shipments to Oceania dropped 26.9% to 6,668 units because of a decrease in exports of the Pulsar compact car and the Teana. Shipments to Asia fell 6.3% to 7,349 units amid slower exports to China.
