Stu Hayner Lime Rock Pre Race Report
#5 GMAC / Trenton Forging GTO Looks to carry momentum from Cleveland
Detroit – June 29, 2005 Fresh of his first top-five in the #5 GMAC
Commercial Finance / Trenton Forging GTO, Stu Hayner and the
Autosport Development team head to the historical Lime Rock Park for
round 6 of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Series. The
race is held in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series and the
New England Grand Prix. The World Challenge races will be run on
Saturday, July 2nd and will air the following day on SPEED.
“This has always been a good track for me,” said Hayner. “Although,
we’ve had our share of bad luck here too. In 2002 we took the Trans-
Am pole and coughed a motor while leading with four laps to go. In
2003, the race was run in wet conditions and typically that’s good
for me. Unfortunately, running with a huge lead, someone put down
some oil going into one and we got off deep in the grass.”
“We don’t look at that though,” Hayner laughed. “We can be very fast
here and I think the short track and long straight will favor our
car. We keep learning more about our set-ups each time out and I
think we’re starting to become much more consistent in finding what
the car likes.”
“We can’t let our success at Cleveland get to our heads though,”
Hayner cautioned. “The turn one incident really shook up that outcome
of that race. We were fast in qualifying and did well to finish where
we did. But, we’ve got a lot more work to do… we can’t let up. This
will be a good test for us before we head out west.”
The New England Grand Prix schedule calls for the SPEED GT race to
run Saturday at 12:40pm and the Touring Car race to run on Saturday
at 4:10pm. Both races will air Sunday, July 3rd on SPEED with the
Touring Car race at 4pm and the GT race at 5pm. All times are EST.
Autosport Development competes as part of the SPEED World Challenge
GT Series. All events are nationally televised on SPEED channel
(formerly Speedvision). In 2005 the SPEED World Challenge Series
schedule will include street races and temporary circuits in
Cleveland, Denver and St. Petersburg, and make the traditional stops
around the country at great tracks like Sebring, Road Atlanta, Lime
Rock Park, Infineon, Mosport, Portland, Mid-Ohio and Laguna Seca.
