Detroit Wine Organization Announces Date of Second Annual Detroit Uncorked
DETROIT, June 29 -- Detroit Wine Organization (DWO), Metro Detroit's largest wine enthusiast organization, announced this week that Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 has been selected as the date for Detroit Uncorked, its second annual wine tasting fundraiser for The Children's Center. Ford Motor Company proudly returns as Presenting Sponsor of Detroit Uncorked.
Detroit Uncorked will again be held at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. Last year's inaugural event -- one of the region's largest wine festivals -- was an overwhelming success, selling out with 1,650 guests in attendance and raising more than $85,000 for The Children's Center.
"We are pleased once again to partner with Detroit Wine Organization to raise funds for one of Metro Detroit's most worthwhile charities, The Children's Center," said Jim Vella, Ford Motor Company vice president and chief of staff. "The inaugural Detroit Uncorked was a huge success, and we look forward to an even more successful event this year."
Detroit Uncorked will feature nearly 800 wines from around the world, including a Michigan Wine Pavilion with approximately 20 wines from the Michigan region. The event also will feature food, entertainment, a silent auction and educational information about wine.
"Detroit Wine Organization is all about having fun, tasting great wines, meeting new people and contributing to community organizations," said Bob Visconti, DWO board president. "With the generous support of Ford Motor Company again this year, we will continue to fulfill the demand Metro Detroit residents have shown for wine education and related activities. Most importantly, with the increase in the number of tickets being offered for Detroit Uncorked this year, we expect to raise greater funds for The Children's Center."
The DWO is a non-profit organization with nearly 2,500 members. The organization hosts wine tastings and instructional activities throughout the year aimed at promoting the educated, responsible consumption of wine. All proceeds from events benefit local charities.
"Detroit Uncorked offers a unique opportunity to draw a whole new demographic of supporters to The Children's Center," said Doug Ferrick, chief development officer for The Children's Center. "Thanks to Detroit Wine Organization and Ford Motor Company, this event will again help to raise crucial funds and visibility for our organization."
Founded in 1929, The Children's Center is one of the most diverse child- serving agencies in Michigan, serving thousands of children and families annually.
