Round 1: McClenathan (9.754/63.84) lost to David Grubnic (6.361/286.92)

Heat, Humidity and Grubnic turn back McClenathan

MADISON, Ill. (June 26, 2005) - Qualifying his Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM
AirHog Top Fuel dragster in the No. 10 position, Cory McClenathan, from
Lake Havasu City, Ariz., dropped a tire smoking battle with David
Grubnic during the opening round of eliminations at the NHRA Sears
Craftsman Nationals.

Fighting heat, humidity and a tricky Gateway International Raceway
quarter-mile, McClenathan gained a good advantage at the green but lost
traction just off the starting line. Immediately thereafter, Grubnic
also lost traction. Both drivers pedaled their tire smoking dragster
with Grubnic hooking up first. Meanwhile, McClenathan's dragster
suffered a mechanical problem. At the finish line, Grubnic turned on
the win light in 6.361 seconds, while Cory trailed with a 9.754-second
elapsed time.

"We've let everybody down here lately," said McClenathan. "We've let
our sponsors, owners and fans down. This team is so much better than
this. We cannot get out of first round and when we do it's a pedaling
contest.

"This time we broke a fuel line and it (the fuel) got inside the cockpit
with me. Fuel got in my helmet and then it got in my eyes. By then I
think he was way ahead, so it didn't matter anyway. The Safety Safari
was awesome. They were right there, got the eyewash out and got me
cleaned up and on my way.

"We're just better than this. We're going to have to make some
changes. I'm not sure what we going to do yet. We're going to have to
find a way to run this FRAM AirHog dragster on hot tracks and we just do
have that right now.

"On a personal note, a couple of things. My father-in-law Larry
Anderson lost his mother this morning. She had been sick for sometime.
So my heart goes out to him and the rest of the Anderson family. I know
it's a tough thing to deal with.

"Secondly, we've had our last race with Billy Rice on the team. He's
going to go on and do some different things. He was an awesome addition
to the team and did a great job for us. I want to thank Billy for all
he's done for this team."

Unofficially, McClenathan now has 580 points and is No. 9 in the NHRA
POWERade Top Fuel point standings,

NEXT RACE: After six races in seven weeks the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing
Series takes some time off. Next up on the schedule is the Mopar
Mile-High Nationals, July 15-17, at Bandimere Speedway, near Denver
