Lebanon Valley Speedway Press Release

Leckonby Gets Redemption As Fireworks Fill The Sky!
-By: Rodney Rescott June 25, 2005
West Lebanon, NY: It was near perfect conditions for an action packed
night of racing and a pre-4th of July fireworks display, as Berkshire Bank and
Capital Tractor presented the racing spectacular at Lebanon Valley Speedway,
Saturday night.
Fireworks filled the sky, and the speedway, as the Advanced Auto Parts,
Morrison powered #66 of Dave Leckonby scorched the field to score a well needed
victory, his first in 2005. After destroying his primary car in warm-ups,
and wrecking the back-up on the last lap of the feature last week, he and his
crew thrashed to piece this car back together to come out and capture the
checkers!
After a convincing victory in the heat race, Leckonby served notice to the
rest of the field that he was not to be denied. Still reeling from some
injuries he suffered last week from the wrecks, he labored his Bicknell #66 from
the inside front row, and held off a late race charge from the ‘Sand Lake
Slingshot’. The S&S Asphalt #115 of Kenny Tremont lead charge through the
field, with ‘Fast’ Eddie Marshall’s Marshall Oil #98 hot on his heals.
A lengthy red flag flew about 11 laps into the race when contact was made
between the #88 of Ronnie Dwyer, the Rifenberg Construction #21 of Donnie
Corellis, and the K&F Modular Homes #45j of Wayne Jelley, that left the cars of
Corellis and Dwyer ‘hooked’ together. This required a saw to separate them.
After all was cleared up, the wrecks, the heat, and Lebanon Valley’s
All-Time Winningest driver of Tremont on his back bumper, Leckonby never faltered. “
During the red flag, and even during the cautions, it was so hot in the car
because of the heat. But man, it feels so good to be here in victory lane!??
he added after thanking his crew for all their tireless work. Leckonby was
followed by Tremont, Marshall, J.R. Heffner, and Mel Schruffer rounded out the
top 5.
The heat was on for the Sportsman class as well, as an early wreck around
lap 3 took out the Team Goewey KIA #2 of K.C. Goewey when Goewey made contact
in the back of the SportsPage #09 PMC of Kevin Lynch causing several other
cars to suffer damage, but managed to continue. The #09 was sent to the pits
for repairs, but didn’t return, along with Goewey’s #2. The race continued
with the #14 of Lorne Browe out front, and looked like he was going to walk
away with it, but a late race bobbled, dropped him from 1st to 3rd in two laps,
giving the victory to the #9H of Ed Harkins. Following Harkins across the
line was Art Collins, Lorne Browe, Kyle Hoffman, and Don Miller to cap off the
top 5.
Pro Stocks had its second first time winner in as many weeks as the #15 of
Dave Blanchard ran away and hid from the field, in a caution free Pro Stock
event. Even with #7 of Yetman closing in, it was too much of a lead, and
Blanchard sailed acrossed the finish line, followed by Yetman, Steve Goodemote,
Paul LaRochelle, and Kevin Arnold. The Rookies had a first time winner in the
form of the #3 of Bill Hammell. He was followed by Jerry Wright, Brian
Keough, Jim Cronk, and Eric Sbrega.
Pure Stock action was hot and heavy in the afternoon sun. The early crowd
watched as the Pure Stockers sweated out several excellent and exciting
races. Pure Stock #1 was won by Brian Houghtaling, followed by John Chapman,
Shannon McDermott, Marcus Tifft, and Joe Walcott. P.S .#2 was captured by Larry
Ball, second was Joe Landry, Paul Engwer, Howard Madsen, and Jay Kreutziger
Jr., finished out the top 5. P.S. #3 was won by the Legendary Pete Wiegand,
followed by Phil Wood, Al Relyea, Jay Casey, and Nick Hilt. And in P.S. #4,
it was Ryan Coon, over Chuck Lampe, Joe Chenail, Dave Steibel, and Rich
Douglass.
Next Saturday will be a tune up for Thursday July 7th’s Mr. Dirt 2005, with
Freihofer Baking Products presenting a Night of Features, honoring our U.S.
Armed Forces. Also on tap will be a $3,000.00 to Win Modified Carquest
Special, and a 4 Cylinder feature event. You are definitely not gonna want to miss
