Terry Borcheller - Daytona preview

Terry Borcheller expects he'll have a significantly different car setup for
the next Rolex Sports Car Series race at Daytona International Speedway, on
June 30. He hopes repaving of the infield portion of the track will provide
more consistent grip around the 3.56-mile combined oval and road course.
Borcheller, of Gainesville, Ga., will drive the No. 54 Bell
Motorsports/Feeds the Need Pontiac-powered Doran JE4 with Ralf Kelleners of
Dusseldorf, Germany.

 

"Daytona has typically been a track where it's very, very difficult to get
any type of grip. It has been a difficult surface to work with, because we
wanted the straight-line speed – it's a long straightaway and it's a
superspeedway – but if we went with a low-downforce setup, it was a
difficult car to drive and a difficult car to engineer. It was hard to get
it right and to get the balance," Borcheller explained.

 

"If the new infield has significant grip, I think the setup there will be
radically different. But that won't be difficult for the magnificent [team
owner] Jim Bell and our team!"

 

chassis work

 

The Bell/FTN team continues to work on development of the Doran chassis.
Borcheller noted recent changes could make a difference at Daytona:

 

"I'm very, very excited. The team has done a lot of work to try to make the
car as competitive as possible. Hopefully, all that will show up for the
Daytona race."

The Rolex Sports Car Series race is set for Thursday, June 30 from 7:15 pm
to 10 pm, on the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway infield road
course in Daytona Beach, Fla. The race will be televised on Speed Channel on
Thursday, June 30 from 8 pm to 11 pm.
