Metaldyne Wins Transmission Module Business with Ford
PLYMOUTH, Mich., June 21 -- Metaldyne announced today that it has been awarded a contract to supply two transmission clutch modules for Ford Motor Company's new six-speed automatic transmission.
The contract calls for Metaldyne to supply the overdrive and center support modules for the new transmission, which will be used in a broad range of rear-wheel drive passenger car, light truck and SUV applications. By combining Metaldyne's expertise in product development, metal forming, aluminum die casting and machining and assembly, Metaldyne will: forge shafts and ring gears; die-cast the center support casting; and provide machining, welding and assembly lines for the production and final assembly of both modules.
"This is an example of Metaldyne moving further up the value chain in the direction of complete systems and modules," said Tim Leuliette, Metaldyne chairman, president and CEO. "This program shows Metaldyne's evolution as a complete transmission module supplier and further validates our business model."
The components will be produced at various Metaldyne locations across the United States and the modules will be assembled at Metaldyne's Bluffton, Ind. facility.
