Kid’s Box Car Racing and Sprint Cars at SSP on Thursday Night
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (June 20, 2005) – This Thursday night, June 23, the
Susquehanna Speedway Park will host a great night of fun and entertainment
featuring the Sprint Cars, Xtreme Stocks, Classic Cars and Kid’s Box Car Racing.
Lots of great prizes from Hamilton Motorsports will be available for all
entrants. All children 12 and under will be admitted free if they decorate a box
and compete in the races. All kids are encouraged to make a racecar out of a
box (with their arms, legs and head sticking out). Two family members or
friends are needed for the pit crew. This will be a two-(2) lap race (on the
frontstretch) with a pit stop. The pit stop will include taking off and
putting shoes back on both feet for tire changes, washing the face to clean
windshield and drinking a drink for fuel.
The SSP Sprint Car point championship continues to get closer as Salfordville
’s Fred Rahmer closed within 24 points of season long leader Greg Hodnett of
Memphis, TN. Lance Dewease remains in third place despite winning last
Sunday’s feature event. Jason Johnson of Eunice, LA, looks to turn his luck
around this week remains in fourth. Up-and-coming sprint car young gun, Blane
Heimbach remains in fifth place as he continues pursue his first SSP win of the
season.
Larry Hughes, Jr. of York Haven won for the second time this season in last
Sunday’s Xtreme Stock Car feature event. David Wilhelm of Harve de Grace,
MD continues to lead with Michael Goodwin of Wellsville closing the gap
everyweek. Last season champion, Charlie Pensinger of Shippensburg continues to
hold on to third with Bryon Sipe and Karl Windish rounding out the top five.
The Xtreme Stock Car drivers eligible for the double purse money Pepsi bonus
are Hughes, Tommy Slanker, Goodwin, Ronnie Thomas and Windish. These drivers
will automatically start at the rear of the feature event, and if any or all
of these drivers make it into the top five finishing spots, then that driver
will receive double purse money for that position. These drivers will also
compete in the 4-lap Pepsi Challenge Dash paying $50.00 to the winner.
Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at
7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand ticket
prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12)
$4.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00. If
needed, the raindate for this event will be announced at a later date.
SSP continues its Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00
discount for each person with a ticket stub from the June 16 or June 19 events only.
For example, fans will receive $2.00 off an Adult ticket for June 23 with
and Adult ticket stub from the June 16 or June 19 events. Returning fans are
encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the
stub to be entered into special drawings to be held during the season for
great prizes. Last season, the grand prize was two tickets to the NASCAR race in
October at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles

- The 15th Annual Cindy Rowe Auto Glass PA Speed Weeks event returns to SSP
on Thursday night, June 30 paying $4,000 to the winner of the 30-lap Sprint
Car event. Joining the Sprint Cars will be the Xtreme Stock Cars and W.O.W.
Stocks (Women on Wheels). Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 4:00
p.m. Warmups begin at 5:45 p.m. with time trials at 6:30 p.m. Racing
action begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 &
older) $20.00; Teens (13-17) $10.00; Children (6-12) $5.00; and Children (5
& under) are free.
- The Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series will continue on Sunday, July 3
with the 50 lap Summer Fun 50 paying $1,500 to the winner (Sportsman Tour Purse
for the remainder of the field – 24 starters / 20 laps). Also on the card
will be the Street Stocks, Legends Cars and the first appearance of the All
Star Race Trucks. Handicapping will begin for the Trail Motors Super Sportsman
and the Street Stocks based on the last three events. The first 40 laps of
the Trail Motors Sportsman feature will count all green and yellow laps until
40 laps are complete and the last 10 laps must be green flag laps. Gates
open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 7:00 p.m.
with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. There is no increase in pit
or grandstand admission prices for this special event. Grandstand ticket
prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12) $4.00;
and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00.
- The Super Sportsman at SSP culminates with the Inaugural 75-lap Trail
Motors Championship on Sunday, September 4, paying $2,500 to the winner. For the
championship race, there will be 12 automatic qualifiers for the event
determined by the winners of the following events: 1) Silver Spring (Sat., May 28 –
Craig Morrow); 2) SSP (Sun., May 29 – Russ Mitten); 3) SSP (Sun., June 5 –
Dave Calaman); 4) Port Royal (Wed., June 15 - Paul Miller); 5) SSP (Sun.,
June 19 – Rich Eichelberger); 6) Williams Grove (Fri., June 24); 7) Silver
Spring (Sat., July 2); 8) SSP (Sun., July 3); 9) Lincoln (Wed., July 20); 10)
SSP (Sun., July 24); 11) SSP (Sun., Aug. 7); 12) SSP (Sun., Aug. 21). The
remainder of the field for the championship will qualify through heats and a last
chance race. All Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series events at SSP will
require the use of Hoosier Tires on all four corners with a Hoosier 105/18-15
plated (HTMA or HTE) right rear spec tire.
