CRA SPRINTS BACK TO PERRIS SATURDAY GAUNT RIDING A 2-RACE
STREAK AFTER SANTA MARIA WIN
JUNE 20, 2005
Rickie Gaunt of Torrance, Calif. will try to land a "turkey"
this Saturday at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. No, it's not a "turkey
shoot," but the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Cars return to the 1/2-mile dirt
track for yet another installment in the track's 2005 calendar of racing
events.
Gaunt is riding a two-race winning streak, winning Saturday
night's 30-lapper at Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway, and a victory would
make him the SECOND driver in series history to win three straight! DAMION
GARDNER WON FOUR STRAIGHT EARLIER THIS YEAR. GAUNT's recent successes have
him listed sixth in the latest series standings.
Defending series champion Rip Williams continues to lead the
points, trailed by 12-time fast qualifier Damion Gardner and Cory Kruseman.
Gaunt led the final 22 laps of Saturday's Santa Maria race in
front of a huge crowd, his first victory there since a "winged" win in
1991! Driving the Smiley Crane Service/Extreme Chassis Company
Chargin/Extreme, he held off Williams, Gardner, Danny Ebberts and Davey
Pombo. Charles Davis, Jr. led the first eight laps.
