USAC RETURNS TO TUCSON'S USA RACE PARK SATURDAY FLOCK LEADS
WESTERN MIDGETS TO 3/8 MILE DIRT OVAL
JUNE 20, 2005
USAC's initial race of its "Golden Anniversary" season was
January 1 when the Southwest Sprint Cars competed in a special event at the
brand-new USA Race Park in Tucson, Ariz. This Saturday, the USAC Western
Midget Car Series makes its debut at the 3/8-mile dirt track.
Four-time series champion Robby Flock of Murrieta, Calif.,
searching for title number five, enjoys a 31-point lead over Jerome Rodela,
who finished third in last year's standings. Flock recorded his 50th career
series victory earlier this year at Bakersfield, Calif. and has since
strung together four consecutive "top-10" finishes.
Rodela has four "top-six" finishes in five starts this season
and with 67 points available at Tucson could turn things around. Ryan
Kaplan, third in the current standings, is the only driver with a repeat
win this season.
A 30-lap feature event caps the program which includes
qualifying and heat races.
