Terry Borcheller - Mosport race

Terry Borcheller enjoyed his return to Mosport International Raceway, but he
was frustrated he couldn't repeat his past success on the 2.5-mile road
course in Bowmanville, Ont. Borcheller, of Gainesville, Ga., joined Turner
Motorsport for a Grand-Am Cup race on June 18, driving the No. 96 BMW M3
with Justin Marks of Chico, Calif.

 

Marks qualified fourth on the 55-car grid with a fast lap of one minute
30.504 seconds. He started the two-hour 30-minute race and immediately moved
to second place. He pitted during a caution period just past the one-hour
mark and Borcheller took over, returning to the track as the race leader.
Unfamiliar with the car and short on time to complete the optimum race setup
prior to the race, he dropped back to third. He held the position until the
last lap, when a late pass left him fourth.

 

"There wasn't a lot of time to learn the car – the test day on Thursday was
rained out and on Friday, we struggled with oversteer, the majority of which
was a bad bushing in the rear suspension, which the crew fixed. That just
left us with the warmup before the race, but we really worked together as a
team to get the setup, which was pretty good," he explained.

 

"I hate getting passed like that on the last lap. And it was frustrating
going from the lead back to second and third. That's just not something I'm
used to. About halfway through the race I got to where I needed to be with
the car. I was in contention for the win until the last restart, but we just
didn't have the power of the [race-winning] Mustangs."

Although losing track position was an experience Borcheller didn't
appreciate, he did enjoy working with the Turner Motorsport crew. 

 

"It was great to be involved with them, to get into a program that just won
[the last race] at Watkins Glen. They did such a good job getting the car
ready for the race – it was the best it had been all weekend, which was a
real plus," he said. "Turner Motorsport was a lot of fun, and it was a joy
to get to know Justin. He just loves the sport; he really has passion for
it. It's kinda cool to be around that."
