Cruz Pedregon Eliminations Wrap Up
Advance Auto Parts Car a Little Too Aggressive

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 19, 2005) – Cruz Pedregon, driver of the Advance
Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car, fell in the first round of eliminations to Jim
Head during the K&N Filters SuperNationals presented by Advance Auto Parts
at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Pedregon shook the tires early in the run, slowing the car to a 5.712-second
elapsed time at 250.18 mph. Head also struggled to control his car, but
edged
Pedregon with a pass of 5.477 seconds at 288.11.

Pedregon analyzes the weekend in Englishtown.

³I am very pleased with the great qualifying we had,² Pedregon said.
³Everything felt on line’ for our first round today, but we went over the
edge and shook the tires early making the car lose traction. I was able to
bring the car back, but Head had already taken advantage of it.

³There is no indication that yesterday¹s trip to the sand trap had any
effect on today¹s pass,² explained Pedregon. ³The data shows the
barometric pressure was higher today than in past days, and the engine
produced more power than expected. We just miscalculated the effort we
needed.

³The Advance Auto Parts team is encouraged by the No.1 qualifier we got this
weekend. When you run quick times during qualifying, you are in the edge of
making it in eliminations’ day. Wes Cerny (crew chief) and the rest of the
crew know what we need to do to qualify in the top half of the field, and
then carry on into Sunday¹s race.²
