Coors Light Announces Multi-Year Contract Extension with Chip Ganassi
Racing with Felix Sabates - David Stremme to Drive #40 Coors Light Dodge
for 17 Races in 2006
CONCORD, N.C. (May 23, 2005) --- Coors Brewing Company announced today
that they have extended their relationship with Chip Ganassi Racing with
Felix Sabates in the Nextel Cup Series. The extension will include the
primary sponsorship of the #40 Coors Light Dodge with CGRFS development
driver and current Busch Series driver David Stremme for 17 races in the
NEXTEL Cup Series in 2006. The partnership also includes associate
sponsorship of the #40 during the other 19 Nextel Cup races.
"We are happy to announce our continued involvement with Chip and Felix
and support of the great sport of NASCAR," said Steve Saunders, director
of event marketing for Coors Brewing Company. "Coors Brewing Company
has been a team sponsor in this sport for 23 years, and we're looking
forward to our new era of racing with David Stremme behind the wheel.
The CGRFS operation understands our business and helps us drive value on
and off the race track, and we're proud to continue our association with
the team."
Coors made their foray into racing in 1982 with their sponsorship in the
Indy Car Series. After one year, Coors invested in NASCAR and won their
first championship in 1988 with driver Bill Elliott. Coors first came
to team owner Felix Sabates and Team SABCO in 1995. After five seasons
and three drivers, team owner Chip Ganassi partnered up with Sabates in
2000. Since that time the Coors Light Dodge has visited victory lane
five times and brought home 25 top-five and 57 top-10 finishes.
David Stremme joined the CGRwFS stable of drivers in 2002 when team
owners Chip Ganassi and Felix Sabates signed him as part of the CGRwFS
driver development program. Previous, Stremme had started racing in
1994 and over eight years, drove in seven different racing divisions.
2003 was Stremme's first year in the NASCAR Busch Series and he split
seat time with fellow CGRwFS driver Jamie McMurray. He earned the
Rookie of the Year title despite only racing in 18 events. He was the
top finishing rookie in 16 of the NBS races that year and earned three
top-five and seven top-10 finishes. In 2004 Stremme finished 10th in
the championship points standings. Currently he is driving the No.14
Navy Dodge for FitzBradshaw Racing.
