Lebanon Valley Speedway Press Release

A Wild Night At the Valley, Hearn and Collins Survive F\or Wins!
-By: Rodney Rescott
-June 18, 2005
West Lebanon, NY: There were no fireworks on the schedule for Saturday
Night’s main events, but there was plenty on the race track. Anderson Equipment
and Taconic DSL present an action packed, on the edge of your set action in
every single division.
The weather was perfect, the nearly sell out crowd was chomping at the bit,
and the drivers were all fired up to put on a show for the fans. The Jersey
Jet, Brett Hearn, aboard his familiar Gable Auto Stores #3 tip-toed his TEO
Pro Car through the field and crossed the line first, Art Collins survives the
caution filled Sportsman race to win his 2nd, and Mike Middleton is the
second to upset the “unbeatable?? Yetman in as many weeks.
Earlier in the night, a scary crash was witnessed in the warm-up session
when the Advanced Auto Parts, Morrison powered PMC #3D of Dave Leckonby suffered
a exploded right rear brake rotor while coming down the front stretch at
speed. He ended up making severe contact with the turn one wall, damaging that
car beyond repair. He brought out the backup car, and qualified it in the
heats, to an inside second row start for the main event.
That was just merely just the beginning of what was to be in the main, when
Steve Hough’s #34 brought the field to the green, and began to pull away.
But within a couple of laps, the yellow was out when there was a multiple car
pileup in turns 3 and 4 that included the #99M of Jeremy Matthias, the #473 of
John Alberti, the #28 of Al McCoy, and the #115 of Kenny Tremont. Everyone
would continue except for Alberti and Tremont, relegating them to a 23rd,
and 24th place finish. But in the end, Hearn had the field covered, and
crossed the line first capturing his 2nd victory of 2005. He was followed by
Hollywood Guy Sheldon, Ronnie Dwyer, Mr. Excitement Wayne Jelley, and Fast Eddie
Marshall. As the checker flew, the #66 of Leckonby and the #74 of Jr.
Heffner made contact on the backstretch and spun. Heffner limped his car acrossed
the line in 14th, Leckonby finish 16th, and the Willie one, Will Cagle
brought home a respectable 15th finish in a 3rd string #115 supplied by the
Tremonts.
The Sportsman class didn’t go unnoticed with a multi-car pile-up of their
own on the front stretch at the start of their 20 main event. The SportsPage
sponsored #09 PMC of Kevin Lynch brought the field to the green only to have
the caution come out just as fast as the #87 of Neil Stratton slowed and
everyone else “checked-up?? to avoid him. This one had nearly half the field
involved, most were able to continue with minor damage, except for the front
runners of Kory Sandstedt, Bobby Knipe, and Kyle Hoffman. Also involved and
several laps down was the #2 of K.C. Goewey. But after several more cautions, it
was all the #68 of Art Collins, followed by Brian Sandstedt, Lorne Browe,
Jeff Watson, and Don Miller.
Pro Stocks saw the #7 of Rob Yetman involved in several incidents throughout
the Pro Stock 20 lapper that relegated him to an 11th place finish. But the
story of the night was the rookie Pro Stocker, Mike Middleton. He powered
his #38 to the front from a 2nd row start and never looked back. Even in the
waning laps, with heavy pressure from the #78 of Paul Larochelle, and a wisp
of smoke developing under the car, he never lifted and captured his 1st ever
Pro Stock victory in fine fashion. The rookies saw John Rivers Jr. captured
his 1st career victory as well.
Pure Stocks saw the Legendary Pete Wiegand’s #78 capturing a victory, as
well as Chrissy Hilt returning to victory lane. Jay Casey and Dave Streibel
captured the checkers in their events as well.
On the card this week, is the return of the “Eve of Destruction??, Tuesday
June 21st. A Huge Demo Derby, School Bus race, Trailer Races, the Green
Momba, and of course, an unbelievable stunt show. Get there early as the action
will not stop for anyone! Gates open at 5pm, Events at 6pm, and the carnage
begins at 7pm. Then on Saturday June 25th, it’s Fireworks, Fireworks, and
Fireworks! Berkshire Bank and Capital Tractor bring the fans a full card of
racing action as well as the ever popular Fireworks spectacular!
