WJ Will Start Fourth in Englishtown Eliminations
Event: 36th Annual NHRA SuperNationals
Day/Date: Saturday, June 18, 2005
Location: Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Englishtown, New Jersey
Warren Johnson completed another strong qualifying effort on Saturday at
the NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ, with his 6.702-second,
206.20 mph effort from Friday evening slotting the GM Performance Parts
Pontiac in the fourth starting position.
Recognizing that the warmer temperatures at Old Bridge Township Raceway
Park during the second day of qualifying would prevent any wholesale
changes at the top of the order, Johnson used his final two timed
attempts to fine-tune his race car. Despite a solid performance,
Johnson looked for further improvement, with mastering the rough racing
surface at the legendary New Jersey speedplant his primary concern.
"Although we're pleased to have our GM Performance Parts Pontiac in the
top half of the field, we still have some work to be done. As we've
shown all season, this car is capable of being as quick as anyone out
there. However, we have yet to find a totally effective way of handling
the bumps on this racetrack, which are especially noticeable in the
right hand lane.
"We did make a few changes for today with mixed results. For example,
we had the third quickest pass in the morning session, but the top speed
wasn't where we would have liked it to be. Therefore, we'll go over
everything from our race car to our notes from this weekend, as well as
previous races here in Englishtown, and come up with a game plan for
tomorrow. We have a strong starting position, and we would certainly
like to capitalize on it."
