Cruz Pedregon Grabs No.1 Qualifier
Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car Fast in Englishtown

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 17, 2005) ­NHRA Funny Car Champion, Cruz Pedregon,
qualified his Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car in the provisional No.1
position Friday. This pass was Pedregonıs second qualifying effort during
the 36th annual K&N Filters SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway
Park. 

Pedregon, winner of the Englishtown race in 1995 and 2000, sprinted his
funny car down the quarter mile clicking off a 4.791-second elapsed time at
316.45 mph. Pedregonıs effort was just .031 seconds short of brother Tony
(Pedregon) track elapsed time record of 4.760 seconds established in 2003.

³We had been very close to this kind of performance for a while,² said
Pedregon. ³We knew we had a good car but it was a little too aggressive. Wes
Cerny (crew chief) readjusted the steering wheel and the weight distribution
giving me a fast and stable car. The track held nicely today, and if it can
hold a quicker run, we will try to give it.
