JOHNSON, HOUGH ARE TOP QUALIFIERS AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS' LUCAS OIL SERIES RACE
KENT, Wash. - In the first rounds of qualifying of the Jet
Chevrolet Lucas Oil Championships, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing
Series, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Johnson and Top Alcohol Funny
Car pilot Brian Hough took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.
Johnson, of Shelton, Wash., outran the field with a pass of 5.392 seconds at
259.81 mph. And Junction City, Ore., resident Hough made a 5.756-second,
251.30 mph run to set the pace.
Top qualifiers in other classes were Gary Anderson, Graham, Wash., in Comp
Eliminator; Harry Holton, Modesto, Calif., in Super Stock; Bill Kost,
Renton, Wash., in Stock Eliminator; Shawn Cowie, Richmond, B.C., in Top
Comp; and Dan Patridge, Kennewick, Wash., in Sportsman Motorcycle.
Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Pacific Raceways. Gates
open at 8 a.m. both days and final qualifying and time trials for Comp
Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super
Street are scheduled Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster
and Top Alcohol Funny Car competitors are slated to run first round of
eliminations at 3 p.m.
Saturday night's action will bring the Armageddon Eve of
Destruction featuring Jet Cars, AA/Supercharged Coupes and the remaining
elimination rounds of Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Eliminations for all other classes will start Sunday morning at 10.
Tickets are $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 7 to 14 years old are $4
each day and kids 6 and under are admitted free. Saturday's admission
includes the Armageddon Eve of Destruction. For more information call
