RACER Confirms SPEED GT As Most Competitive Road Racing in
the World
TOPEKA, Kan. (June 16, 2005) - SCCA Pro Racing's SPEED World Challenge
GT Championship was named the most competitive road racing series in the
world by RACER magazine in the current, August 2005 issue, available on
newsstands now.
"Close, Closer, Closest," the article written by Andrew Crask, judged
professional racing series on a number of statistical criteria,
including: Ratio of total races to number of race winners, Average
number of starters, Average mph difference of starting grids, Average
percent of starters on lead lap at finish and Average race margin of
victory.
The article featured the top five series overall, of which SCCA SPEED GT
ranked second in the world behind the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Behind CTS and SPEED GT were the German Touring Car Championship (DTM),
IRL IndyCar Series and NASCAR Nextel Cup.
"This is a tremendous compliment to the level of competition SPEED World
Challenge has attracted in both GT and Touring Car," SCCA Pro Racing
President Steve Johnson said. "Additionally, SCCA SPEED GT is the only
series in this list that does not include cars that share a common
formula. This speaks volumes about the hard work that the SCCA Pro
Racing staff has done, which is often a thankless and unpopular role in
the paddock."
SCCA SPEED GT and SPEED Touring Car both return to action June 24-26 at
the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland for Round Five of their 2005
Championships. For complete information, please visit
