Terry Borcheller - Mosport preview
winning program
If past success is an indication of future results, Terry Borcheller should
enjoy a strong performance at Mosport International Raceway on June 18.
Borcheller, of Gainesville, Ga., has won twice and collected eight class
podium finishes in twelve races on the 2.5-mile road course in Bowmanville,
Ont. He has started from the class pole position three times.
Borcheller will team with Justin Marks of Chico, Calif., in the No. 96
Turner Motorsport BMW M3 for the 2.5-hour Grand-Am Cup race at Mosport.
Borcheller is subbing for Bill Auberlen of Redondo Beach, Calif., who will
be competing in les 24 Heures du Mans this week.
"The car won the Grand-Am Cup race last Saturday and Justin qualified on the
pole [at Watkins Glen International in New York], so I'm really looking
forward to slipping into a winning program. Justin is very good, the team
seems to be very good and I think the car is good, so I'm pretty excited
about that, not only for me personally, but also for K&N and Bondurant,"
Borcheller said, referring to his personal sponsors K&N Performance Filters
and Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.
BMW wins
Both of Borcheller's Mosport wins were in BMW M3 race cars. In 2003, he
saved the best for last, winning on the last turn of the last lap. The track
seems to suit his driving style.
"I love Mosport," he confirmed. "It's very challenging and it's very fast. I
like fast, sweeping corners - turn one, turn two, turn eight and nine. It
has a good rhythm to it and it's fast and challenging."
Le Mans
Borcheller had planned to drive a Saleen S7R in the prestigious 24 Heures du
Mans, but a change in team plans left him open for the opportunity to race
at Mosport.
"I'm disappointed that we're not going to Le Mans, but it is very nice to
have the Mosport weekend for my sponsors, and for me to be able to drive,"
he said. "Also, we're making a lot of headway with the Saleen in the testing
that we're doing."
