Cruz Pedregon 10th after Friday Qualifying at Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. (June 10, 2005) ­NHRA Funny Car driver, Cruz Pedregon
manuevered his Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car to the No. 10 position
Friday following his second-qualifying effort during the eighth annual NHRA
Nationals at Route 66 Raceway.

After thunderstorms in the area delayed the race, Pedregon powered his car
to a 4.840-second elapsed time at 323.19 mph. On his first qualifying
attempt, the NHRA Funny Car championıs Nitro Funny Car spun the tires and
coasted to a pass of 6.187 seconds at 151.10 mph.

Pedregon shares his thoughts about Fridayıs qualifying.

³We were disappointed we smoked the tires in the first pass,² said Pedregon.
³But we were able to recover in the night session and place a solid run. Wes
Cerny (crew chief) and the rest of the Advance Auto Parts teams helped me
put this car in the field and weıre ready for tomorrow.²
