Action At The Valley Had Everyone Seeing Double

Action At The Valley Had Everyone Seeing “Double??
-By: Rodney Rescott
06/04/2005
New Lebanon, NY: A Standing Room Only crowd saw twice the action for one
low price as Keybank and Wohrle’s presented an action packed night of racing.
With a rain shortened program on the card from last week, Howard Commander’s
Lebanon Valley Speedway was filled to capacity as the action unfolded
Saturday night.
The Sportsman Consi, Rookies, Pro Stocks, Sportsman, and Modifieds were all
on tap to serve up some fantastic wheel to wheel action, times two!
And in round one, it was all Yetman again in the Pro Stocks. Rob Yetman,
aboard his Beer Belly Bob’s #7 powered his way to the front in the first 20 lap
feature, then backed it up with a hard fought battle with the #8 of Jay
Corbin to capture the second one to go 6 for 6, and undefeated in 2005.
In the Rookies Jim Cronk’s #83 got to the front and ran away with the
checkers in the first feature. The second, saw Cronk again battle with the #71 of
Kyle Hosier for several laps, but couldn’t finish it off, giving the victory
to Kyle Hosier.
The Sportsman class served up one of the most exciting races of the night.
In the first race, the #117 of Jason Tompkins had the race in the bag until 1
lap to go, when the “Alligator?? Art Collins’s #68 forced his way underneath
Tompkins going into turn one, and the two made contact. The #117 suffered
a left rear flat, and the #68 labored his broken car acrossed to finish line
first, only to be denied the victory. Track officials deemed the pass to be
too aggressive, and a “rough riding?? penalty was applied, giving the win to
second place finisher K.C. Goewey, aboard his #2 Team Goewey car.
In the second Sportsman Feature, Collins redeemed himself by capturing the
lead early in the race and checked out on the field, taking the victory in
dominating fashion.
The Modifieds didn’t want to be outdone, and they too, piled on the action.
The “edge of your seat?? door-to-door racing had the defending champion
Brett “the Jet?? Hearn making a late race pass on leader John Alberti’s Abele
Tractor Sales #473, to take the victory, with the hard charging K&F Modular
Homes #45 of Wayne Jelley hot on his heals. Hearn and Jelley were followed by
Alberti, Heffner, and Tremont to round out the top 5.
Feature number two showed how even this field is this year. The features
had its’ sixth different winner, in six different races. Paul Gilardi, aboard
his stout #87x got the lead early and ran away and hid to capture his first
checkers of 2005. The field was coming to Gilardi in the closing laps, led
by the #21 Rifenberg of Donnie Corellis, and “The Wild Child?? Andy Bachetti,
but it wasn’t going to be enough. Following Bachetti, was a great run by
Matt Quinn, and Jelley returns for a second top 5 run.
Not to be forgotten, the Pure Stocks were on hand for their normal Saturday
Night bumper-to-bumper action. These features offered up some good clean,
and fun, racing action for the packed house on hand. The 51 cars on hand were
split into four features. And the four winners were Jay LaMountain, Randy
Myers, ray Hall Sr., and Howard Madsen.
Williams Lumber and Heavy Hauler are presenting the program for Saturday,
June 11th. The 358’s are returning to action, along with the usually Saturday
program. Gates open at 5pm, racing at 6pm.
