PERSISTENT RAIN WASHES OUT QUALIFYING AT SOUTH GEORGIA MOTORSPORTS PARK

 
CECIL, Ga. –The opening day of racing at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, being held this weekend at South Georgia Motorsports Park, was postponed Friday due to rain.
            “We plan to resume racing tomorrow at 10 a.m.�?? said NHRA Southeast Division Director Bill Holt. “Our plan is to give the competitors in Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Gas and Super Street each one more qualifying attempt, while the racers in Comp Eliminator, Super Comp and Top Sportsman will each receive two runs. Once qualifying is complete we will proceed with eliminations in the afternoon.�??
            The competitors in the 250-mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car categories will each receive one run at 3 p.m., with eliminations to following at 6 p.m. 
            Before the rain ended the day’s activities, racers in Super Stock and Stock Eliminator took to the South Georgia quarter-mile for one qualifying run. The respective low qualifiers in those classes are Shorter, Ala., racer Bob Dennis and Arnold Greene of Matthews, N.C.
The gates at South Georgia Motorsports Park will open tomorrow at 8 a.m. with qualifying and time trials set to resume at 10 a.m., leading off with Super Comp. Qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car is scheduled for 3 p.m., with eliminations to follow at 6 p.m.
Gates at South Georgia Motorsports Park open tomorrow at 8 a.m. General Admission tickets are $25. Children 6-12 years old are $5 and kids 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. All tickets include a pit pass.
