SMITH, CLAUSON WIN THURSDAY AT SPEEDROME; RAIN WASHES OUT
FORD FOCUS FEATURE
Bobby Smith of Camby, Ind. and Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. took
50-lap features Thursday in the weekly “Thursday Night Thunder” series at
the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome while rain washed out the Ford
Focus program.
Smith, driving the No. 8 Epperson Painting/PPG Beast/VW, led the final three
laps of the Regional Midget Car Series event after passing Andrew Burnett on
a restart. It was Smith’s first career series victory. Burnett, Mel Kenyon,
Nick Bohanon and Joe Liguori rounded out the Top 5. Bohanon assumed the
series points lead after previous leader Brad Kuhn finished 16th.
Clauson, who led the final 21 laps, took his third USAC Kenyon Midget Car
Series victory in four attempts, as he drove the No. 7c Armstrong
Farms/Bunge North America Kenyon/Yamaha to victory. Following Clauson to the
stripe were Brent Beauchamp, Thomas Hennigan, Jonathan Hendrick and Dakoda
Armstrong. Clauson continues to lead the series points standings.
Persistent rain following the Regional midget feature forced officials to
call the Ford Focus Midget Car Series feature. Jamie Williams is the series’
points leader heading into the next event, which is scheduled for next
Thursday, June 9.
