Winning Weekend: Racing Teams Using UGS Technology Continue to Set the Pace Through Product and Process Innovation

Teams Using UGS Technology Add First Place Finishes at Indy 500, Coca-Cola 600 and NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals to List of 2005 Victories

PLANO, Texas, June 3 -- Andretti Green Racing, Hendrick Motorsports and KB Racing are three different teams competing in three different racing leagues, yet all three teams have two things in common -- each team has a driver that took first place in a major race this past Memorial Day weekend, and all three teams used technology from UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, to help them reach victory lane by transforming their process of innovation and digitally developing their cars.

Cars developed with the help of UGS(R) software arrived in the winner's circle at three of this weekend's major racing events. In the IRL(R) IndyCar(R) Series, Dan Wheldon, driving the #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam car, won the Indianapolis 500 for Andretti Green Racing; Jimmie Johnson, of Hendrick Motorsports, drove the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet to victory at the NASCAR(R) NEXTEL Cup Series Coca-Cola 600; and at the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) O'Reilly Summer Nationals, Greg Anderson took first place in the Pro Stock competition for KB Racing -- the most recent addition to the family of racing teams using UGS technology.

"The racing season has started out very strong for the teams innovating with UGS technology and the results from this past Memorial Day weekend continue that winning tradition," said Dave Shirk, executive vice president of Global Marketing for UGS. "Our collective congratulations go out to all the teams who competed this weekend. We are proud that the same software helping companies all over the world produce innovative new products can also help racing teams shave time off the stopwatch and produce victories."

Racing tradition continues for UGS

In addition to today's announcement, UGS also announced in separate press releases earlier this year that the cars that won the first races of the 2005 season in both the NASCAR and IRL series were developed with the help of UGS software. In February, Hendrick Motorsports' Jeff Gordon won the Daytona 500 driving the #24 DuPont Chevrolet while Andretti Green's Dan Wheldon took first place at the Homestead-Miami Indy 300 in March.

While Hendrick Motorsports and Andretti Green Racing have been using UGS software for several years to help develop their cars and improve their performance on the race track, KB Racing's relationship with UGS only just began in early 2005.

"With a successful year behind them -- Greg Anderson was named 2004 Speed Channel Driver of the Year -- KB Racing was seeking a new competitive edge to keep them on top, and that led to our relationship," Shirk said. "They were aware of the success other racing teams were having with UGS technology so they began to employ it themselves and expect to see its benefits play out on the race track."
