Military Personnel Admitted Free, Lee Greenwood Performs
MILWAUKEE (June 1, 2005) - The highly-acclaimed Albany Marine Band out
of Albany, Georgia will perform during this Saturday morning's "Salute
To America's Military Champions" at The Milwaukee Mile.
This band of fifty Marines travels throughout the United States and
internationally to fulfill its mission of serving as musical
ambassadors. This will mark the band's second appearance at The
Milwaukee Mile.
The "Salute To America's Military Champions" begins at 11:00 a.m. CST,
with the introduction of the day's Grand Marshal, 4-Star General Tommy
Franks. Every branch of America's military will be represented, with
past, present and future military filling the historic speedway's front
stretch.
"As a U.S. Marine veteran, I am very proud to welcome back the
highly-trained members of the Albany Marine Band to perform at The
Milwaukee Mile," said Gary Girard, the speedway's general manager.
All Active, Active Reserve and Retired Military who present Military
I.D. at designated grandstand ticket windows at The Milwaukee Mile this
Saturday will be admitted free to witness this special "Salute To
America's Military Champions" and the two world-class auto races that
follow. The high-speed drivers of the Champ Car World Series take to
the track for 225 miles of racing at 12:00 p.m. CST, with the stock car
wheelmen and women of the ARCA RE/MAX Series competing for 150 laps
beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Country music legend Lee Greenwood will perform his trademark song, "God
Bless The U.S.A."
With music as their primary mission, Albany Marine Band members are
selected by audition and must maintain a high level of instrumental
proficiency. Additionally, with the Marine Corps tradition of 'every
Marine a rifleman,' all Marines in the band are fully trained to fulfill
their secondary mission of bearing arms in the defense of our nation.
Above and beyond their musical and military roles, each Marine has
supplementary administrative responsibilities within the band to support
the unit's high operational tempo.
