BEACH EYES TERRE HAUTE AFTER POCKETING "HOOSIER HUNDRED"
MAY 30, 2005
Teddy Beach of Donnelsville, Ohio ranks third in the new Weld
Racing USAC Silver Crown Series standings after winning Friday nights' 54th
Coors Light "Hoosier Hundred" at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in
Indianapolis, presented by the Indiana National Guard.
Beach now sets his sights on this Saturday night's First
Financial "Sumar Classic 100" at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track,
presented by First Financial Bank, Clabber Girl and the Terre Haute
Convention & Visitors Bureau. The 100-lap race continues a tradition begun
at the 1/2-mile oval in 1980 and revived in 1995. Brian Tyler won last
year's 100-lap race after coming from 22nd starting position.
Beach, who lasted only 33 laps in last year's Terre Haute
race, scored an emotional victory in Friday's "Hoosier Hundred," leading
the final 15 miles in his Beach Mfg./Fram Beast/Pink Chevy. He was followed
by Josh Wise, who led 83 laps before yielding to Beach. Russ Gamester, Jay
Drake and Tracy Hines completed the "top-five" at Terre Haute.
Hines, the fastest qualifier Friday, emerged with the series
point lead going into this Saturday's 100-lapper. He's three points ahead
of defending series champion Dave Steele, with Beach 25 back.
Drivers will be aiming at Drake's 1-lap Terre Haute Silver
Crown qualifying record of 20.170 seconds when time trials get under way.
Two-time "Sumar Classic 100" winner Tony Elliott of Warsaw, Ind. will try
to become the race's first three-time winner.
