ELDORA WINNER CHANEY EYES "BORDER WARS XI" TITLE
GAS CITY FRIDAY; HINES TAKES ANDERSON "50"
Rob Chaney of Wooster, Ohio, fresh from a 30-lap USAC
Valvoline National Sprint Car victory at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg,
Ohio Sunday night, hopes to challenge for the 2005 "Border Wars XI"
championship this Friday when the two-race series' finale unfolds at Gas
City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway.
Chaney trails defending "Border Wars" champ Jay Drake and Dave
Darland by five and three points respectively after Drake took the opener
at Eldora April 30. Rains forced the April 29 Gas City race to this Friday.
A 30-lap feature is on tap at the 1/4-mile dirt oval.
Chaney led all 30 laps of Sunday night's race at Eldora in the
K & N Filters/Sander Engineering Stevenson/Kistler and was followed by
Tracy Hines, fast qualifier Justin Marvel, Daron Clayton and Bud Kaeding.
Hines caught Bobby East on the 28th lap of Wednesday night's
"Central Indiana Chevy Dealers 50" at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway to give
car owners Dynamics, Inc. a record 60th career series triumph. Trailing
Hines' Kroger/Tide/Bounty/Pringles F-5/Mopar at the checkered flag were
Marc Jessup, East, Dave Steele and fast qualifier Levi Jones.
Dave Darland and Drake emerged from last week's races in a
virtual tie for the series point lead going into Friday night's race at Gas
City. Darland was ninth and Drake 12th at Eldora.
