MARTZ DOUBLES UP AT ANDERSON, SPEEDROME; LEADS MIDWEST SERIES TO IOWA,
WISCONSIN
Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind. picked up where he left off in the 2004
Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series by sweeping the second and third events
of 2005 – last week at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway and the Blossom
Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome – and looks to continue that trend this
weekend in Iowa and Wisconsin.
Martz, who now owns 11 series triumphs, will look for No. 12 and No. 13 this
weekend on the quarter-mile at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
and the 1/3-mile dirt track of Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.
Martz won races at both tracks last season.
Martz, who kicked off the season with a second-place run May 14 at Limaland
Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, won Wednesday at Anderson, as he cruised
past Jordan Noblitt on Lap 8 of the 30-lapper in the No. 1 Duffy/Warble
Beast/Ford Focus, owned by Greg Steele. He was challenged only slightly by
runner-up Stephanie Mockler, who was followed by Josh Clemons, Dustin Morgan
and Kyle Robbins.
Martz came back the next night at the Speedrome and held off multiple
challenges by Speedrome Ford Focus Midget Car Series points leader Jamie
Williams to win for the first time in his Ford Focus career on the 1/5-mile
paved track. Mockler came in third, while Jon Randall and James Robertson
followed. Martz led all 50 laps.
With her two podium finishes last week, Mockler sits only 17 points behind
Martz in the points standings heading into the weekend.
