ZAP Previews Smart Car to Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown; Fuel-Efficient Micro-Car Previewed at Brown Fundraiser for Attorney General

SANTA ROSA, Calif.--May 2, 20053, 2005--ZAP (OTCBB:ZAPZ), pioneering the next generation of advanced transportation and energy technologies, announced today that Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown received a sneak preview last week of the Smart Car Americanized by ZAP.

As part of its activities in preparation for United Nations World Environment Day, June 5 in San Francisco (www.wed2005.org), ZAP was invited to attend a fundraiser in the Bay Area for Brown's bid to run for California Attorney General. ZAP representatives, including Advisory Board member William "Rock" Hill, were on hand at the fundraiser, which included business leaders and celebrities from around the Bay Area. ZAP has been working with government leaders recently to bring alternative energy issues to the mainstream.

"Mayor Brown loved the Smart Car," said ZAP Marketing Coordinator Leigh Anne Baker. "We are looking forward to scheduling a more formal test drive with the Mayor as World Environment Day is coming to the Bay Area June 5."

Throughout his political career, Brown has been known for his support of alternative energy. According to his website, as Governor of California, he established the California Conservation Corp (CCC), enacted into permanent law the California Coastal Protection Act, successfully pushed for the country's first building and appliance energy efficiency standards, halted nuclear power development and made California the leader in solar and alternative energy.

ZAP made history last week, delivering the first U.S.-compliant Smart Car Americanized by ZAP to a Nevada couple through its authorized dealers in Reno, Nevada. One of the most fuel-efficient internal-combustion powered automobiles in the world, the two-passenger Smart micro-car has big potential in the U.S with record gas prices forecasted this summer, says ZAP. The Smart Car Americanized by ZAP has received federal approval to begin sales in 45 states, not including California and four other states that follow a different set of automotive emissions laws.

ZAP recently reported in its quarterly report ended March 31 that it has $825 million in advance dealer purchase orders. ZAP has not agreed to accept all the purchase orders. ZAP is currently in discussions with a number of potential partners to meet the strong American demand for the Smart Car. Delivery of the Smart Cars represented by the current level of purchase orders is conditional upon ZAP's execution of strategic relationships with major automotive manufacturing partners that will enable it to support the full sales pipeline. To build sufficient capacity to supply the full U.S. demand, the Company has been in discussions with a number of major automotive industry leaders in Europe and Asia that have direct experience in the manufacture and sales of high-efficiency vehicles. Once ZAP finalizes the required strategic partnerships and has approval from all government agencies, it will determine its delivery schedule for Smart cars in the United States.
