Lebanon Valley Speedway

The Valley stays dry again, Heffner and Yetman see Checkers.
Saturday May 21, 2005: Howard Commander’s Lebanon Valley Speedway pulled
the wild card, Saturday Night, and came up the winner, again. As Mother Nature
tried to wash out the program, she could only muster a short shower early in
the evening, giving way to an exciting night of racing.
The stands were packed with the racing devoted to watch the Callanan
Industries and Lebanon Springs Self Storage program go off without a hitch.
The Big Block Modifieds saw its fourth different winner, in as many weeks of
racing, as the #74 of Averill Park’s J.R. Heffner held off the hard
charging field. What looked like a carbon copy of last week’s conditions, played
right into Heffner’s hand. After the race he stated the “… we didn’t
change anything on the car after the heats, we just let the track come to us.??
And sure enough it did. The A. Callarusso and Sons #74 flew under the radar
for the first half of the race, but a late race restart gave Heffner the
opportunity he needed to get to the front.
The veterans of Brett Hearn, Kenny Tremont Jr., and Eddie Marshall, were hot
on his heels all night, but just couldn’t get into to position for a win.
Another weekly contender, Andy Bachetti, aboard his stout Albreida Waste PMC
#4 was also showing his prowess early on, slicing through the field, but came
up short after having being forced into the “spin cycle?? by the #87X of Paul
Gilardi, and making contact with the turn two boiler plate.
That was enough to give Heffner his first victory of the 2005 season at
Lebanon Valley, and making him the 4th different winner in 4 weeks! Heffner was
followed over the line by Hearn, Ronnie Dwyer, Tremont, and Marshall rounded
out the top 5.
The Pure Stocks put on, yet, another barn burner with a total of 56 cars on
hand! The division split into to 4 main events, gave the crowd no excuse to
sit down! These guys and girls whipped the crowd into a frenzy with four
wheel-to-wheel, door-to-door, action packed races. With some of the best racing
on the night, the roaring crowd cheered on all the victors including; P.S.
#1 was won by the #78 of Pete Wiegand, P.S. #2 by the #98 of Justin Herron,
P.S. #3 saw the #14 of Al Relyea, and P.S. #4 was taken by the #93 of Jay
Casey.
Not to be outdone was the Pro Stocks. With Rob Yetman’s Beer Belly Bob #7
crossing the line first on a last lap pass of the #78 of Paul Larochelle.
Following Larochelle was the #76 of Kevin Arnold, the #15 of Dave Blanchard,
and the legendary #54L of Jim Langenback. At press time, a protest of the
finish was underway, so we will announce the ‘Official’ results as soon as they
become available.
The Sportsman division saw the #25 of Frank Harper’s PMC seal the deal, and
capture his first win of 2005, Collins, Knipe, Chad Pierce, and Kory
Sandstedt followed him acrossed the line. George Miles captured another victory in
the Rookie Pro Stocks.
