Henzler on Top Once Again After SPEED GT Qualifying at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio (May 21, 2005) - German Wolf Henzler wasted little time in Saturday morning's SCCA Pro Racing SPEED GT qualifying session, posting a qualifying record time of 1:26.820 (93.628 mph) to take the pole for today's race, Presented by Trenton Forging Quality Formed Solutions at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The pole means Henzler, in the No. 55 Applied Materials/Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 Cup, will start from the top position for the third time in four events this season. John Heinricy led a trio of Cadillac CTS-Vs and will start second.

"This is the first time for me at this track and I like it very much," Henzler said. "There are a lot of turns that go left, right, left, right, and I think that is very good for our car. Plus, we don't have any additional [REWARDS] weight in the car after I lost it at Road Atlanta. I think that is a big advantage for me as well."

Henzler's record time, which broke Michael Galati's 2004 mark of 1:27.956, came just minutes after the 20-minutes session began. He backed it up with a 1:26.841 about 10 minutes later.

Team Cadillac is poised to follow up its impressive Road Atlanta weekend after it took qualifying spots two, three and four; led by Heinricy (1:27.511, 92.888 mph), in the No. 12 XM/Mobil 1/Motorola/Bose Cadillac CTS-V, and closely followed by teammates Max Papis (1:27.602, 92.792) and Andy Pilgrim (1:27.775, 92.609), in the similar No. 16 and No. 8 cars, respectively.

SPEED World Challenge veteran Lou Gigliotti was second fastest in Friday's practice session in his No. 28 LG Pro Long Tube Headers Corvette C6, and will start fifth after qualifying with a 1:28.094 (92.274).

The SPEED GT race is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 5:35 pm (EDT).
