Bloomington Speedway -- May 20 Rainout

BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY 2
WEATHERMAN 4

Bloomington Speedway Rained Out Again

BLOOMINGTON, IN (May 21, 2005) - It looked Thursday morning as if we would finally dodge the bullet and get another race in. And, it was our KISS Series race. This is a show that all of our fans and competitors look forward to all season. All systems were go.

Rain was predicted to last all day Thursday; but Friday was to be bright and sunny all day. They certainly had the first part right. We got plenty of rain on Thursday. However, if you give Mike Miles a whole day of sunny weather, he can make a racetrack out of just about anything. He awakened to overcast skies and off and on misty rain; but the weather guns were still promising sunshine. Mike got busy disking the track, the chutes and the pits. This gave the dirt enough added surface area so that the light breeze we were getting and the sun that we were supposed to get would leave the track with about the right moisture level.

At one p.m. they were still reporting that the sunshine was coming. Mike made the call that we would run. The high side of the track was a little too dry for Mike's tastes so he decided that he should add a little water on the high side. He mounted his big, blue water truck and headed for the track. He knew that he was in trouble. He was having trouble getting around in the water truck. If he couldn't get around in the water truck, the big haulers were certain to mire down. Still, the sunshine was supposed to be coming. If it came quickly enough, we could still get the show in.

A little after four Friday afternoon there were about 20 haulers ready to sign in. Mike met with them. They could see what the pits were like He explained that we would probably have to pull them in and out of the pits and that we were prepared to do that. He told them, "You guys decide, if you say run, we'll run. I just want you to know what you're getting into. The competitors said, "Let's try it again next week."

We have the best competitors and fans that you'll find anywhere; and Mike wants more than anything to give them a show. It goes down hard when we can't do that. However, last night they probably made the right call.

In accordance with KISS Series rules, we are not permitted to make up a series show; so, we'll have to try it again In the meantime, please start doing your best "dry dance" next Thursday night.

Plan on joining us next Friday night when we'll have sprint cars, O'Neal Wood Products/Monroe County Pizza Dept modifieds, and the Tire & Wheel Center super stocks will be in competition.
