Cruz Pedregon Makes Solid Opening Statement
The Advance Auto Parts Entry In the Provisional Sixth Spot

HEBRON, Ohio (May 20, 2005) ­ Cruz Pedregon, driver of the Advance Auto
Parts Nitro Funny Car, opened this weekendıs Pontiac Performance NHRA
Nationals at National Trail Raceway with a solid sixth-place effort.

After struggling on the first pass, Pedregon laid down a 4.841-second
elapsed time at 317.42 mph in the nightcap. Despite the unpredictable
weather conditions, the Camarillo, Calif., driver was pleased with how his
team reacted.

³You either make it down this track or you donıt,² said Pedregon, who sat on
top of the Funny Car field during last yearıs National Trail Raceway event.
³It was a good run and we had it backed off a little as well. We wanted to
keep it in the narrow groove and just get it down the track.

³A 4.84 was a good run considering the conditions,² Pedregon added. ³Right
now, weıre in sixth and thatıs our best qualifying effort in a while.
Tomorrowıs weather conditions are supposed to be relatively cool, so we
might be able to improve on that during the final two sessions.²
