Leppo Wins at SSP on Thursday Night
Leppo Wins on SSP’s 51st Anniversary Night
Newberrytown, Pa (May 19, 2005)…Brian Leppo raced to victory in the 25-lap
Sprint Car feature at Susquehanna Speedway Park on Thursday evening’s 51st
Anniversary program. In other action, Mike Goodwin won the rain shortened
18-lap feature for the Xtreme Stock Cars. The Legends Cars feature event was
postponed by the rain and will be made up when the Legends Cars return on Sunday,
June 19 with double features for them that night.
Leppo started from the pole position in the Sprint Car feature and took an
immediate lead. While Leppo was leading, defending track champion Fred Rahmer
was working his way forward from the 12th starting spot. While Rahmer did
catch Leppo, he was never able to make a serious challenge, and Leppo went on
to score his first SSP win of the season, and second of his career.
Rahmer had to settle for second, with Jeff Shepard coming back from a first
lap tangle to claim third. Jason Johnson made a late race pass of Alan
Krimes for fourth, with Krimes fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Lance Dewease,
Greg Hodnett, Bobby Weaver, Glenndon Forsythe, and Cory Haas. Heats went to
Leppo and Brent Kluge, while Chris Meleason took the consolation race.
Goodwin became the first repeat winner this season in the Xtreme Stock Car
event taking the lead from Bryon Sipe on the15th lap of an event that was
shortened by two laps because of rain. Sipe finished second with last week’s
winner Larry Hughes Jr. coming from the 30th starting spot for third. Adam
Smith and Ronnie Thomas completed the top five. Heats went to Sipe and Thomas,
with Hughes taking the Pepsi Dash.
The. next race at SSP will be Thursday night, May 19 with the SABKO
Enterprises Twin 20’s for Sprint Cars along with the Xtreme Stock Cars and the Great
American School Buses. The first 20-lap Sprint Car feature will be for
drivers who have never won a sprint car feature event at SSP. This feature will
pay $1,000 to the winner. The second 20-lap Sprint Car feature will feature
