Amicus Union Calls for Publication of MG Rover Report

LONDON, May 20, 2005 -- Amicus have called for the Government to publish the report by the Financial Reporting Council into the collapse of MG Rover when it is published next week.

The call to publish the report follows a statement from the DTI last night that it had not decided whether the findings would be released. 'It's a decision for the Secretary of State. It's for him to absorb the report and publication will depend on the findings and what, if any, further action needs to be taken.'

Roger Maddison, Amicus National Officer for Motor Vehicles said

"We called on the DTI to investigate fully the collapse of Rover. We now ask for the DTI to release all the findings from the inquiry"

The report was commissioned following a call from the Amicus trade union, over concerns of discrepancies in MG Rover's accounts. Accountants were appointed after a GBP427m difference was uncovered between the amount of money that flowed in and out of MG Rover's books.

The investigation by the Financial Reporting Council will be completed by next week and will be handed to the new Trade and Industry Secretary Alan Johnson.
