Nissan North America and Hispanic Scholarship Fund Honor Scholarship Recipients; Eleven Texas students will reach their professional dreams with help from Nissan and HSF

DALLAS--May 18, 2005--Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) will honor 11 Hispanic students with scholarships during a Celebration of Achievement ceremony being held at Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (NMAC) in Irving, Texas on Wednesday, May 1, 20058, 2005.

The HSF/Nissan Community College Transfer Scholarship program was created to provide financial assistance to community college students of Hispanic heritage transferring to a four-year college or university in order to obtain a bachelor's degree. At the Celebration of Achievement ceremony, 11 scholars from Texas will be recognized for their academic achievements while pursuing studies in business, engineering or communications. The students were selected based on their acceptance to a four-year university, grade point average, academic recommendations, and future plans for making a difference in the community.

"Nissan's contribution helps HSF advance its efforts in making a difference among Hispanic students pursuing a college education at the community college level," said Terri Hines, senior manager, public affairs at Nissan North America, Inc.

Many of the students have overcome obstacles and challenges before arriving at the opportunity to go to college.

Raul Magdaleno, one of the 11 recipients, is pursuing a degree in Communications at Southern Methodist University. He never gave up on his college education, despite his many responsibilities working a graveyard shift and going to school during the day.

"I am the one responsible for providing for my mother and younger sister," Raul said.

Nonetheless, Raul has received numerous recognitions for his outstanding community service, including the U.S. President Student Service Award. Being selected as an NNA/HSF scholarship recipient is not only a reward for his hard work, but also a significant aid in his journey to achieve his dreams of becoming a successful professional.

This year, NNA will donate $100,000 to support scholarships for recipients in California and Texas. To date, Nissan has awarded 133 scholarships and has contributed nearly $700,000 to HSF since the launch of the HSF/NNA partnership in 1995.
