Hankook Tire Rolls out Juniper Networks IDP Solution to Secure and Assure Its Network; Major Korean Automotive Equipment Manufacturer Deploys Juniper Networks IDP to Protect Global Corporate Infrastructure

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--May 1, 20058, 2005--Juniper Networks, Inc. today announced that Hankook Tire of Seoul, Korea, has deployed Juniper Networks Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) systems to protect the company's worldwide network infrastructure. The Juniper Networks IDP 1000 and IDP 500 devices protect servers and data traffic at the central office, Research and Development center, and manufacturing plants.

Hankook chose the Juniper Networks IDP solution for its ease of management, comprehensive Multi-Method Detection (MMD) technology to identify network threats, and highly stable integration of the IDP solution with Hankook's existing infrastructure.

"Until we implemented the Juniper Networks IDP solution, we were suffering from unrelenting network attacks," said Kim Sang Hoon, General Manager of Emfrontier, Hankook's IT outsourcing division. "Even with multiple firewalls and anti-virus protection, managed by a dedicated five-member IT security team, we were not able to prevent continuous attacks that degraded network performance and caused expensive and troublesome downtime. After the Juniper Networks solution was in place, we experienced no further attacks or disruptions and our staff was able to continue working with maximum network efficiency and reliability."

Hankook is one of the world's largest tire manufacturers and makes passenger, high-performance radial, light and medium truck and bus tires. Its products are sold in more than 200 countries and the company's clients include Volkswagen, Ford, Mitsubishi and Volvo.

The Juniper Networks IDP platform won the Network Computing Editor's Choice award in February 2005. The platform provides inline attack protection against worms, Trojans, spyware and other current and emerging threats. Using multiple detection methods and full application layer inspection, Juniper Networks IDP solutions accurately identify attacks and minimize the number of false positives. Juniper Networks IDP solutions also combine an open signature format with extensive customization capabilities and -- using 3.0 and above versions of its IDP operating code -- can compensate for a range of Microsoft operating system vulnerabilities that allow attackers to gain control of affected Windows systems.

"Corporate networks must be secure against intrusion threats and malicious software agents, while providing high levels of performance," said Tim Kang, Juniper Networks' vice president for Korea. "Our market-leading IDP solution delivered the combination of security and assured performance necessary to protect Hankook Tire and enable its employees to continue to work uninterrupted. Secure and assured network infrastructure underpins the Infranet vision of a next-generation, publicly accessible communications framework."
