Gentex Receives Top Quality Awards from Toyota

ZEELAND, Mich., May 17, 2005 -- Gentex Corporation , the U.S.-based supplier of automatic-dimming mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry, has received the "Excellence Quality Performance Award" from Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America (TMMNA). This is the fourth year in a row Gentex was recognized by Toyota for exceeding their quality requirements, and the first time Gentex received the Excellence Award. Gentex was one of thirty-nine (39) suppliers recognized for meeting Toyota's highest standards in quality, delivery and value improvement for parts and materials in 2004.

The award was presented to Gentex at Toyota's recent Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony, which brought together the automaker's approximately 500 North American suppliers to share expectations for the coming business year and to recognize outstanding supplier performance.

Gentex supplies Toyota with interior and exterior automatic-dimming mirrors, which automatically darken to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear. The brighter the glare, the darker the mirrors become, making nighttime driving safer.

"As Toyota continues to grow in North America, our suppliers are challenged to meet Toyota's high standards on an even greater scale," said Osamu "Simon" Nagata, vice president of purchasing for TMMNA, located in Erlanger, Kentucky. "Toyota's success here is directly linked to the success of our suppliers."

Gentex was also recently recognized by New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI), and received an "Excellence Award - Triple Crown" for meeting or exceeding NUMMI requirements for Quality, Cost and Delivery. Gentex was one of just twenty-six (26) NUMMI direct material suppliers receiving awards for the 2004 calendar year performance. NUMMI is a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors.

"Toyota vehicles are the industry's benchmark in virtually every product category, so it's especially meaningful to be recognized by Toyota for quality," said Garth Deur, Gentex executive vice president. "It is also important to note that Gentex supplies to Toyota plants in Japan through TMMNA, where the quality requirements are among the highest."
