SSP Celebrates Its 51st Anniversary on Thursday Night
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (May 16, 2005) – This Thursday night, May 19, the
Susquehanna Speedway Park will celebrate its 51st season of operation featuring the
Sprint Cars, Xtreme Stocks and the Central PA Legends Cars Touring Series in
action. SSP point championship leader, Greg Hodnett from Memphis, TN picked up
his second Sprint Cars win of the season last Thursday night. Blane
Heimbach has also been turning some heads as of late with a second place finish
last week at SSP as well as being consistent during the first 5 events of the
season.
Larry Hughes, Jr. picked up his first victory of the season in the Xtreme
Stock Cars. David Wilhelm of Havre de Grace, MD continues to take the double
money bonus for the fourth consecutive time this season coming from last to
second place. The Xtreme Stock Car drivers eligible for the double purse
money bonus are Hughes, Wilhelm, Charlie Pensinger, Tommy Slanker and Brian
Sanders. These drivers will automatically start at the rear of the feature event,
and if any or all of these drivers make it into the top five finishing
spots, then that driver will receive double purse money for that position. These
drivers will also compete in the 4-lap Pepsi Challenge Dash paying $50.00 to
the winner.
Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at
7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand ticket
prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12) $4.00;
and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00. The
raindate will be Sunday, May 22 with the same time schedule.
SSP continues its Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00
discount for each person with a ticket stub from the May 12 event only. For
example, $2.00 off an Adult ticket for May 19 with and Adult ticket stub from the
May 12 event. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and
phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings to be
held during the season for great prizes. Last season, the grand prize was
two tickets to the NASCAR race in October at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4
miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information,

SSP News and Notes:
- Mufflers mandatory for Legends Cars – Mufflers have been mandated for the
Legends Cars for the remainder of the 2005 at SSP. The muffler that must
be used is an INEX approved muffler only.
- The SABKO Enterprises Twin 20’s for Sprint Cars will be held on Thursday,
May 26. The first 20 lap feature will be for drivers who have never won a
sprint car feature event at SSP. This feature will pay $1,000 to the winner.
The second 20 lap feature will feature drivers who have won a sprint car
feature and the remainder of the twenty car field will be filled out with the
top finishers of the first 20 lapper. This feature will pay $2,000. A
driver has the opportunity to make $3,000 by winning both events. General
Admission ticket prices will not be raised for this exciting event that also
includes the Great American School Bus race and Xtreme Stock Cars.
- The Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series will begin on Sunday, May 29
paying $1,000 to the winner. This is the first of eight races for the Super
Sportsman at SSP that culminates with the Inaugural 75-lap Trail Motors
Championship on Sunday, September 4, paying $2,500 to the winner. For the championship
race, there will be 12 automatic qualifiers for the event determined by the
winners of the following events: 1) Silver Spring (Sat., May 28); 2) SSP
(Sun., May 29); 3) SSP (Sun., June 5); 4) Port Royal (Sat., June 15); 5) SSP
(Sun., June 19); 6) Williams Grove (Fri., June 24); 7) Silver Spring (Sat., July
2); 8) SSP (Sun., July 3); 9) Lincoln (Wed., July 20); 10) SSP (Sun., July
24); 11) SSP (Sun., Aug. 7); 12) SSP (Sun., Aug. 21). The remainder of the
field for the championship will qualify through heats and a last chance race.
All Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series events at SSP will require the use
of Hoosier Tires on all four corners with a Hoosier 105/18-15 plated (HTMA or
THE) spec tire and only D-12 or D-15 compounds are permitted.
- Thursday, June 2 will be “Big 33 Football Classic Night at the Races�?? and
the York County Racing Club Night featuring the Sprint Cars, Xtreme Stocks
and Classic Cars along with a Smashmasters sanctioned Demolition Derby.
