mont-tremblant quote:

“I absolutely love this race track. It’s really got a little of everything
you want in a road course. I also think that it will be one of the most
competitive six hour races in history. This will be a race that will really
showcase a team as a whole. It’s going to make the teams work harder and
smarter that ever before. The cars are very fast and still very reliable so
every driver will have to be flat out just to stay on top.”

to the point

Shane Lewis is currently ranked 12th in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car
Series Daytona Prototype championship with 79 points just four markers out
of the top-10. The Southard team holds 11th in the team standings for the
second weekend in a row after four races.

double-podium

Mont-Tremblant was the site of one of the most unique moments of Lewis’
career. In 2002, he was entered in a GS II Grand-Am Cup car that was, at the
time, eligible for competition in the Rolex Series at the endurance races.
Early in the weekend, a GTS team requested his talents and Lewis was added
as a team driver in that car. Though initially not expecting to drive many
stints in the GTS car, he ran much of the race in both cars; driving every
hour, jumping from one car to the next. At the end of the six-hour event
Lewis stood on the top-step of the GS II podium with a victory and on the
third step of the GTS class podium. It marked a unique part of history in
Grand American and for Lewis.

green hell

Shane Lewis flew to Germany to take part in the 33rd Annual 24 Hours of
Nürburgring on May 7-8th. In his rookie appearance at the track known as
“Green Hell” in 2004, Lewis ran to eighth in class. Things did not go as
well this year when a fuel pressure problem in his No. 3 steam-racing
Porsche forced the car to miss the first practice/ qualifying session. They
returned to qualifying and, starting the race, Lewis began to fight his way
to the front. 2004 Southard Motorsports teammate Vic Rice took the second
stint behind the wheel but a punctured tire forced a slow return to pit lane
and dropped the car several laps down with significant damage. Fighting the
15.57-mile, 73-turn track, miserably cold and wet conditions and a heavily
damaged car, the team suffered another blow when the car hydroplaned into a
wall damaging the car even more. While the team worked to repair the damage,
after a brief stint on track by Lewis, the team declared the car unable to
continue. Lewis finished 20th in the A7 class in a field of over 270 entered
cars.

travelin’ man

Shane Lewis is not a man to sit around and wait for the next race. He goes
and finds them. While the Rolex Series has been off, Lewis left Monterey and
traveled directly to Germany to race in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring (see
green hell note). He returned from Germany and, one day later, flew to
Elkhart Lake, Wisc. to participate in the Historic SportsCar Series (HSR)
round at Road America in two different GTP cars. From Wisconsin he returned
to Florida to test his racing kart at Moroso Motorsports Park. He comes to
Mont-Tremblant for the Six Hours directly after that. Following the Six
Hours in the No. 3 BMW-Riley, Lewis will fly to Indianapolis where he has
been invited to attend the 89th Annual Indianapolis 500. From Indy, he will
head north to Minneapolis to assist in a tire demonstration. A week later he
will race in the Six Hours at the Glen in the Southard entry.
