Announcements Part Of Busy Week For Leonard & Team
Sparta, Kentucky - - Right before the ARCA RE/MAX Series explodes into full
force, driver Johnny Leonard along with partner Rick Woodard made several key
announcements this weekend.
Earlier this year the team launched Florida Motorsports Group (FMG), a slick
yet appealing name from an all-based Southwestern Florida operation.
However, as months have passed, the team has opted to move much of it’s operation
to the heart of “racing country??, North Carolina, prompting a new team name.
With that mentioned, Florida Motorsports Group is proud to announce that
Boca Bay Racing (BBR) will serve as the official team name for the remainder of
the 2005 ARCA RE/MAX Series season.
“I’m very happy with Boca Bay Racing as the official name of our race team,??
said the driver Johnny Leonard. “While we tried really hard to keep the
race team in Florida, it just made more sense not only for our team, but our
sponsors as well to relocate our operation to a more centrally located base.??
Better late then never, driver Johnny Leonard also announced Saturday that
he will run for the 2005 ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie-of-the-Year award. With
Leonard only running seven events last year, under ARCA rules he is eligible to
compete for this prestigious award this season. “We’re running the entire
schedule, so we decided why not?,?? explained the Cape Coral, Florida native. “
I know I have some tough competition with Joey Miller and Ken Weaver,
however it’s still anyone’s game. It’s early in the season and we’re going to
give it a shot.??
In addition, Johnny Leonard also announced that Boca Bay Builders owner and
racing partner Rick Woodard will serve as the listed car owner for the No. 13
Chevrolet for the remainder of the season. Woodard, a former hydroplane
driver will serve all the rights and duties of a car owner effective this
weekend in Kentucky.
“It’s very exciting to be listed as an owner in any racing industry,?? said
BBR part-owner Rick Woodard. “This is my first year as an owner of a
stock-car team. I’m very excited about the direction that our Boca Bay Racing team
is headed and I’m looking forward to being one of the most involved car
owners in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.??
Also, both owners proudly announced today the signing of Ted Kennedy as crew
chief of the No. 13 Boca Bay Builders-Affordable Roofing Chevrolet Monte
Carlo for the remainder of the season. Kennedy leaped on board with the team
as a consultant at Nashville before calling the shots on a consultant basis
last month at Salem. His future goals and leadership capabilities have elected
Johnny and Rick to name Ted Kennedy as the “main man?? at Boca Bay Racing.
“Ted is guiding this team in the right direction,?? said Woodard. “He is
becoming more comfortable with Johnny and vice-versa. Ted wants to win just
like the rest of our team. I believe he has the strength, knowledge and
leadership that can propel us to that. “We’re glad he’s on our side.??
Leonard essentially echoed car owner’s statement. “I believe Ted is the
one. He knows a lot about this business, he’s been around a long time. The
team has already begun to make a turnaround and I believe as time presses on our
team will only get stronger and it will be only a matter of time before we
start landing in victory lane.??
Finally, Boca Bay Racing can leak that they will have a new associate
sponsor join their team next month. The team and sponsor are very excited about
their future together and look forward to making the full announcement in the
coming weeks.
